We’re here today to review a local candle designer, By Works Studio. Their candles are all lovingly handcrafted to give you a premium, high-quality candle that smells awesome and burns evenly throughout its… candle-y life.

Here’s a bit of a backstory – I’m a huge fan of scented candles and love trying out different scents, mainly because scented candles calm my soul after a trying, tiring day at work. I came across By Works Studio while scrolling through Instagram and was intrigued by all the beautiful and unique designs of their candles. They also offer a wide range of luxurious and aromatic smells to create a cosy home ambience that is so comforting.

When I contacted them to enquire about the candles, Jess from By Works Studio shared with me that they use premium soy wax blend, imported from Korea.

I’m going to be honest – when she said soy wax, I was stumped. Like… there’s a difference? Which is why I went down the rabbit hole of Google and Wikipedia. Emerging victorious three hours (more like minutes, but I like to be dramatic) later with the information in hand, here’s what I learnt:

According to Google, soy wax is biodegradable, eco-friendly, and is free from toxins and pollutants as it does not emit high amounts of carbon dioxide into the air. On the other hand, the conventional paraffin wax is non-biodegradable, and emits a high amount of carbon dioxide into the air.

And if you were ever to accidentally spill soy wax, you can clean it up easily with just hot water and dish soap. On the other hand, paraffin wax is much harder to clean or remove from carpet and fabrics. Not only that, soy wax candles also guarantee a longer and more satisfying burn time than paraffin wax. Soy wax burns cleaner, as well. Have y’all burnt a candle in the glass cup and then the glass cup is just stained black from all the smoke and soot afterward? Argh.

By Works Studio kindly sent us a box of the Love-shaped Rosy Scented Candle. Perfect wax roses form a beautiful heart, with the wick situated in the bed of roses. When I first took it out of the box, my mama said, “Wah, so pretty, you bear to light it up meh?” Honestly, not really, cause it’s gorgeous and the temptation to just keep it as decoration for my room is high. I can’t bear to, but I’ll do it, for the sake of this review.

The scent, Marry Me, is blended with Tunisian bitter orange, sweet peach, jasmine tea rose petals, sambac jasmine, magnolia, warm amber, mahogany wood and heady musk. Watch this pretty candle burn and relish in the aroma of fruits and flowers.

My room was filled with sweet smelling scent after some time, and it was more floral than fruity. I find the scent just right for me; It’s not too overpowering. My brother came into the room and commented it smells of jasmine. What an acute sense of smell he has, huh.

Being the clumsy girl that I am, I also spilled some wax on a piece of cloth and true enough, with just hot water and soap, I can easily remove it. Amazing!
